In total 20,531 higher education institutions from all over the world (95 countries) were evaluated, 743 more than in the previous year. UAlg is in position 1280, with an overall score of 68.9, and in research the Algarve Academy was ranked 1224.

Since 2012, the CWUR publishes the only global academic ranking of universities, which assesses quality of education; employability, based on the professional success of alumni; faculty quality; and research performance. Objective indicators are used for the four key pillars underpinning the ranking methodology (education, employability, faculty and research), without relying on surveys and data submission by universities.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) is a consulting organisation, based in the United Arab Emirates, that provides policy advice, strategic expertise and consultancy services to governments and universities to improve educational and research outcomes.

This Ranking, which began as a project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with the aim of ranking the world's top 100 universities, in 2019 expanded to list the top 2000 of nearly twenty thousand universities worldwide, making it the largest global academic ranking of universities.
